Artist Talk: Jeepney Drones with Mark Ramos, 5:00–5:45 PM

Mark Ramos will fly his #jeepney_drones and discuss ideas of #tropical_futurism present in the artwork. 3-D printed miniature jeepneys, decorated using vinyl printed artwork, are mounted to hacked drones to fuse stereotypes of the “Third World” as overcrowded, polluted, dangerous, and more, with an aesthetic and visual language of the future and technology.

Three One-Act Plays presented by Bindlestiff Studios, 6:00–7:00 PM

Come join Bindlestiff Studios at Kapwa Gardens as part of Echo Location, celebrating the SoMa Filipinx and LGBTQIA2S+ communities. Challenging cultural and sexual paradigms, stories include themes of Filipinx/Fil-Am culture, petty theft, polyamory, and the multi-nuances of being queer. Selected performances include: #RESIST! by César Cadabes, Missing the Bus by Enedina Ramos-Padilla, and Gotta Love Them Immigrants by Dianne Chui.

#Resist is one Gay Filipino man’s personal journey of self-discovery through a global pandemic, social unrest and Queer liberation. It’s a story of how one’s relationship to their present evolves as our future determines our past.

Gotta Love Them Immigrants by Dianne Aquino Chui, directed by Lindsay Ordesta
Based on a true story, three teenagers must face their consequences and their immigrant mothers after shoplifting.

Missing the Bus is a play about the love between friends, the changes that can happen in a marriage and how love has endless possibilities.

Film Program: Filipinix + Queer Intersections Co-presented by GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance, 7:30–9:00 PM

Experience upbeat explorations of interpersonal relationships that navigate the intersections of Filpinix and queer identities in two films rarely screened in the US, and for the first time screened under the night sky!

It Runs In the Family (Canada, 2016, 46 min) directed by Joella Cabalu
A queer Filipino Canadian artist travels from his home in Vancouver, Canada to California and the Philippines to meet his other LGBTQIA2S+ relatives. While he creates a new collage art work in his studio, he reflects on his journey and its impact on his struggle with being queer and Roman Catholic.

PAMANHIKAN (USA, 2016, 29 min) directed by Angelo Santos
Following Filipino tradition, the parents of an interracial gay couple meet for the first time during an unconventional brunch where the worst traits of the parents are exposed. That turns out to be best for their sons’ future as groom and groom.
