Super Futures Haunt Qollective’s installation explores the relationship between state government, manifest destiny, colonization, and beavers by unpacking the unusual choice by the Idaho state government to parachute beavers to other geographic areas to control a growing population in the 1940s and 50s. The installation also features Lady HOW (Haunting or Whatever), the avatar of member Angie Morrill, who reckons with the violence of colonialism through acts of recognition, un-settling, and imagining otherwise. She, with the other future ghosts of SFHQ, perform haunting visitations but also meet to have cocktails, watch Korean dramas, and just hang out.

Super Furs for the Super Futures is the first installment of a larger project titled Power Bottom which explores the sovereignty of beavers and their kinship to SFHQ via the Specularity. Power Bottom considers the pasts, futures, presents, and presence of beavers, as they entangle with manifest destiny, desire, and fabulation via accounts of beaver refusals to be ‘nature’s perfect engineers.’

Super Futures Haunt Qollective: Visitations

VISITATION: FROM CHILOQUIN TO SEATTLE VIA THE SPECULARITY, 2118

In this Visitation, SFHQ imagines a meeting in the Specularity between Chief Seattle’s daughter, Kikisoblu, (popularly known as Princess Angeline) and Fanny Ball, a Modoc woman and daughter of Captain Jack (Kientpaush) and an ancestor of Lady HOW.  Both women remained behind when their people were forced to leave their homes. In the Specularity, they meet and exchange gifts.
