Storytelling collective
The Black Gold Storytellers collective honors Black elders through story. In the spirit of Isabel Wilkerson’s groundbreaking book The Warmth of Other Suns, Bay Area storytellers share the migration stories of Black elders who migrated from the South to Oakland, CA and nearby cities. The project is curated by Dr. Adrienne Danyelle Oliver, who migrated from Little Rock, AR to Oakland, CA in 2010. As curator, she has sustained support generously provided by the City of Oakland’s Cultural Funding Program, the Akonadi Foundation, UC Berkeley’s School of Education, and Bay Area Writing Project. This support includes development of a website and archive where others may engage with the stories collected during virtual storytelling events.
