Alex J. Bledsoe

Alex J. Bledsoe is a multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses on Black liberation and dismantling exploitative systems. Alex’s current films address issues of medical and environmental racism. Her documentary OAKLEAD follows Oakland’s racialized lead poisoning crisis, and is supported by the Sundance Institute, Berkeley Film Foundation, Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, and the Redford Center. Alex produced the narrative feature, Residue, about gentrification in Washington, D.C., which is currently streaming on Netflix. She directed Heart Race, documenting one man’s attempt to obtain a heart transplant while grappling with racial inequity in Milwaukee. Alex is the cofounder of Breaktide Productions, an award-winning film production company owned and operated by women of color. Alex is also a core member of Healing Justice Ldn, a London-based, POC-led organization working on the intersections of oppression, health, healing and liberation practice. Alex earned her B.S. from Georgetown University with a degree in international politics, where she studied Portuguese, Spanish, and Arabic.
