2023 YBCA 100 Celebration

Saturday, March 18, 2023, 6–9 PM

Launched in 2014, the YBCA 100 list publicly celebrates artists, activists, and leaders who are committed to building regenerative and equitable communities. These fierce innovators work steadfastly through art and activism to provoke, inspire, ground, heal, and bring us together when we need it most.

As 2023 continues to call for radical levels of hope and repair, this year’s YBCA 100 list honors those who inspire us to connect to and be changed by one another in collective pursuit of better ways forward. Though the YBCA 100 list has previously celebrated national and international changemakers, this year we chose to return to our roots, focusing on hyper-local Bay Area individuals and organizations.

The 2023 YBCA 100 Honorees will be celebrated with a dynamic program of live performances, interactive art, food activations, and meaningful connections on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 6-9pm. Join us as we shine a light on those moving us towards empathy, hope, and action.

YBCA Forum

Providing the soundscape for the evening, San Francisco-based DJ collective Amor Digital will start the evening off with a live set at 6pm in the YBCA Forum, followed by a dance party at 8pm.

701 Mission Street Plaza

LionDanceME will activate YBCA’s 701 Mission Street Plaza with their modernized Chinese Lion Dance, including synchronized pop music and special effects.

6 PM - Rice Rockettes

6 PM – Rice Rockettes

701 Mission Street Plaza

The Rice Rockettes, San Francisco’s premier Asian & Pacific Islander Drag Queen Troupe and House, will lead a procession from 701 Mission Street Plaza into YBCA’s Grand Lobby.

6:30 PM - Youth Speaks

YBCA Gallery 3

Taking over YBCA’s Gallery 3, Youth Speaks will perform poetry from the sonic soapboxes in Alex Strada and Tali Keren’s exhibition Proposal for a 28th Amendment? Is it Possible to Amend an Unequal System?.

7 PM - Bayonics

YBCA Forum

Local legends Bayonics, a band with a unique blend of Latin reggae music, powerful vocals, and soulful production, will take the stage for a dynamic live show.

7:30 PM - Rocky Rivera & DJ Roza

YBCA Forum

Rapper, author, and San Francisco’s own Rocky Rivera will be joined on stage by long-time collaborator DJ Roza.

YBCA Annex & 2nd Floor Landing

SOMA Pilipinas will open its offices to the community and activate the YBCA’s 2nd Floor Landing with contemporary hiphop signature style writing by the TDK Crew, founded by Oakland-based graffiti artist Mike “Dream” Francisco.

This exhibition asks the public to consider the role of an artist within an institution—and in the public sphere—as urgent and responsive.

YBCA Gallery 3

This iterative participatory exhibition by artists Alex Strada and Tali Keren asks visitors to critically engage with the U.S. Constitution.
