Bicycle Silkscreen Printing Workshops

Make your own print using a bicycle silkscreen! Drop in on any of these workshops to print your own copy of a student-designed poster inspired by Sanctuary City Project’s UNDO MEN installation, now on view at YBCA.

Organized by Chris Treggiari and Amy Berk of Artivate, this recurring activation is the culmination of a summer-long college-level art course challenging students to gain experience building real world projects, and learn about the intersection of art and activism. Inspired by the work of Sanctuary City Project and their UNDO MEN artwork, this Summer 2023 course encouraged students to design their own posters as well as contribute to Manifest Differently, a new community mural located in the Mission district’s Clarion Alley.

About Artivate

Artivate is a program run by artists and educators Amy Berk and Chris Treggiari, which works to bring activism and art to youth in the Bay Area while bridging communities through public art projects.

Artivate takes inspiration from art, events, and exhibitions in the Bay Area and beyond to create semester-long classes that invite youth to collaborate in the research and creation of interactive public art projects with a community partner. Artivate treats these classes as college classes for their students, giving them real world project experiences while bolstering their resumes and portfolios for their future careers.

Artivate uses mentorship as a program pillar that gives us important learning and experiential project outcomes. Taught by Amy Berk and Chris Treggiari, Artivate provides teaching opportunities and community support to local artists and arts educators, supporting them to earn a living wage and gain valuable teaching experience and mentorship.
