Keith LaMar is a death row prisoner in the state of Ohio. After a prison uprising in 1993, LaMar was falsely accused, sentenced to death based solely on the uncorroborated testimony of jailhouse informants, and placed in solitary confinement, where he has been for the last three decades. In two years, on November 16, 2023, LaMar is scheduled to be executed. LaMar comes to The Healing Project as an activist, artist, and human being; someone who is deeply engaged in the act of living. A survivor of decades of sensory deprivation, LaMar’s goal is to share the soul-healing effects of literature and music, both of which rescued his time and talents from the devastating reality of being thrown away. LaMar’s literacy project, NATIVE SONS, centers around bringing light to young people who live in dark places. In collaboration with musicians like Samora Pinderhughes, Brian Jackson, Albert Marquez, Caroline Davis, and Adam O’Farrill, LaMar publicizes the injustice of his plight, carrying forth the fight for redemption, freedom, and peace.
