Born in Las Vegas to a politically active mother, Cat Brooks grew up intensely aware of the social inequities that permeate the fabric of the American dream. From an early age, she was determined to dedicate her life to changing conditions for those who have historically been pushed to the sidelines. At the age of eight, Brooks found her voice on the stage as an actress and in her journals as a writer. In her early twenties she headed to Los Angeles, where she worked as an actress and a communications professional for the nonprofit Community Coalition in South Los Angeles. It was there that she was trained, supported, and developed as a communicator, organizer, and activist. Since then her life and work have been about impacting inequitable social dynamics through communications work, organizing, policy and advocacy, public speaking, and artistic expression.Artist.
