Kev Choice

2020 YBCA 100 Honoree

Kev Choice is a pianist, MC, producer, composer, educator, and activist from Oakland, CA. He holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance. Kev has worked with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Goapele, The Coup, Too Short, and more. In 2010 he started the Kev Choice Ensemble, combining elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, R&B, and Classical to create his unique sound. He has produced five solo albums, including his most recent work Social Distancing​. In 2018 he was commissioned to compose a work for the Oakland Symphony, which resulted in a five movement piece, ​Soul Restoration Suite​. In 2020 he collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony on a piece he wrote and composed entitled Movements. Kev Choice is on faculty at Oakland School For The Arts, serves on Oakland’s Cultural Affairs Commission as Vice-Chair, and is Vice-President on the Board of Governors for The Recording Academy’s SF Chapter.
