Outdoor public space activation
Kapwa Gardens is a community health and wellness space and a five-year public space activation experiment transforming the 967 Mission parking lot. Designed to be a cultural asset for the SOMA Pilipinas nonprofit organization, this program connects a diverse community of residents, students, workers, and movement builders through vendor pop-ups, live music, public screenings, cultural activities, and more. This multi-functional garden is an outdoor space showcasing activities that heal the mind and body and expand our consciousness and raise the level of empathy in a downtrodden area of San Francisco. Kultivate Labs initially launched this project to help the neighborhood recover from the devastating mental, physical, and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
