Jonathan Garcia

2020 YBCA 100 Honoree

Jonathan Garcia is an artist and activist. His most recent work, Why Don’t We Murder More White People? (or WDWMMWP?) explored concepts of empathy and morality as fulcrums of identity for people of color by examining whiteness and its unassailable immortality. Through film and installation, this project has been exhibited at YBCA, ProArts Oakland, and the Detroit67 Project. Graduating from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies, Jonathan currently works as the Senior Director of Programs & Inclusion at Hack the Hood, and has held professional distinctions at Apple, the Obama Foundation, and USA Today College.
