Christine Wong Yap

2020 YBCA 100 Honoree

Christine Wong Yap uses social practice, drawing, printmaking, and publishing to explore dimensions of psychological well-being, such as belonging, interdependence, and collaboration. She partners with organizations to conduct participatory research projects whose outcomes include site-specific public artworks, zines, and books. Yap holds a BFA and MFA from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Her recent exhibitions include Between You and Mecurated by Shannon R. Stratton at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI. In 2021, she will be a municipal artist-in-residence with the City of Berkeley, CA, via Kala Art Institute’s Print Public program. She has completed over a dozen residencies, including Workspace at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2019-2020) and the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley (2018-2019). Born in California, she was a longtime resident of Oakland, CA, before relocating to Queens, NY, in 2010.
