Aureen B. Almario 

2020 YBCA 100 Honoree

Aureen B. Almario is an educator and artist. She is a part-time Asian American Studies professor at SFSU and Laney College, as well as a freelance teaching artist for K-12 schools. She is currently the Artistic Director of Bindlestiff Studio, where she has developed and honed her knowledge on acting, writing, directing, puppetry, and comedy since 2004. She acted in films Vampariah, Adrift in Sunset and Nanay’s Lullaby. She is a two time recipient of the San Francisco Arts Commission Individual Artist grant to develop the shadowplay Sigaw and a Granny Cart Gangstas sketch show HOEVID-19. Recently she developed the virtual program Kwento Times staged reading series, Stories High workshop and show, and developed a short shadowplay video Kumukutikutitap for the SF Parol Festival. She is the facilitator for the Restorative Theater Arts for Seniors program and has spent her time during the COVID-19 pandemic coordinating volunteers for food deliveries.
