Join us for an afternoon screening of Albert Lewin’s Pandora and Flying Dutchman (1951). In 1930, singer Pandora Reynolds (Ava Gardner)—gorgeous, enigmatic, and fatally drawn to danger—holds the men of a small Spanish town in thrall. When a mysterious yacht appears in the bay, she falls hard for its eerie captain, the legendary Flying Dutchman (James Mason), eternally condemned to sail the seas. Ambiguous and poetic as a fairytale, the film shares with GaHee Park’s work a surreal, ecstatic charge—heightened further by a hyperreal use of color and Mediterranean landscapes played against stylized sets designed by Man Ray.
Enjoy the film and themed snacks as part of this series inspired by GaHee Park’s exhibition Behind the Curtain. Come early or stay late to visit our galleries—free admission is included with your ticket!
