As the annual tax deadline slowly creeps closer, are you looking for tax advice? You won’t get it here, but you will get a performative lecture from self-described “financial exhibitionist” Christine Tien Wang.

Wang will walk the audience through more than a decade of filing taxes as a self-employed artist (reporting losses for many of those years), and point to the complexities, confusions, and contradictions of the whole process. Throughout the performance, Wang traces the relationship between her family’s financial history and her own artistic production. The lecture concludes with the ultimate exposure—a glimpse at Wang’s 2023 Schedule C tax form.

Christine Tien Wang

Christine Tien Wang (b. 1985 Washington D.C.) received her BFA from The Cooper Union in 2008 and her MFA in painting from UCLA in 2013. Wang completed residencies at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, VCUQatar, Chashama North, and Skowhegan. Solo exhibition venues include Galerie Nagel Draxler in Cologne, Berlin, Night Gallery in Los Angeles, and Ever Gold [Projects] in San Francisco.
