Renée Green, born in 1959 in the United States, is an artist, writer, filmmaker, and faculty member at MIT’s Art, Culture and Technology program, which she directed from 2011 to 2015. Green studied art at Wesleyan University and the School of Visual Arts, New York. She participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1989. In 2010 she won a United States Artists Fellowship. She is the founder and director of the production company Free Agent Media. Her books include Other Planes of There: Selected Writings (2014), Renée Green: Endless Dreams and Time-Based Streams (2010), and Shadows and Signals (2001). Green has published texts in Transition, October, Frieze, Texte zur Kunst, Spex, Multitudes, Sarai Reader, and Collapse. Her work has been exhibited widely, including in retrospective exhibitions at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland (2009) and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (2010). A retrospective of Green’s films took place at Jeu de Paume, Paris, in 2008. Most recently her work has appeared at Lumiar Cité, Lisbon (2016).
