In 1991, Gabriel “Wicket” Jaochico began his journey into Hip Hop culture by attending parties in San Francisco. After watching dance groups electrify the crowd, Wicket was intrigued by the “Breaking”. He practiced in his garage with friends and studied videos of other breakers religiously, eventually drawing the attention of original Renegade Rockers member, Aki. After securing an invitation to a Renegades practice at SFSU, Wicket and his friends became official Renegade Rockers members. Wicket went on to perform in stage theater production Madhattan at the New York New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, performing alongside legendary street dancers such as the Rock Steady Crew and Electric Boogaloos. Performing every night for 12 months with such influential castmates honed Wicket’s powermoves, footwork and finesse, developing his own signature style. Countless shows, competitions, and performances later, Wicket entered the world of choreography, earning work with A-list artists including Usher, Will Smith, Chris Brown, LL Cool J, Omarion, and Christina Aguilera. He also was in one of the most influential dance movies You Got Served. In 2005, the Rock Steady Crew presented Wicket the “Spy Award” which represents the highest ideals of Breaking. Wicket has shifted lanes from competing and is now sharing over 30 years experience, teaching at Texas State University
