Organized by Creative Corps artist Daniel Freeman, the Home Frequencies project profiles social workers and artists connected to Dorothy Day House, a Berkeley shelter and social services organization. The event will feature a collaborative short documentary film premiere, live music by David “Chicago” Anderson accompanied by Dorothy Day House shelter manager Daniel Garcia on guitar, artwork by Sean Shelly, and insights from Dorothy Day House executive director Robbi Montoya on her creative approach to social service and leadership, honed over decades of experience in the Bay Area.
Screening Room, Sunday, 1–2 PM
Join Creative Corps artist Nkechi Njaka for a musical performance, RESONANCE. According to Njaka: “music makes us feel. Music has the ability to touch, to move and to inspire. Both Music and mindfulness create a sense of connection to self and belonging between individuals. We feel this deep in our hearts and we feel this in our bodies. And we feel this all around us. There’s a transference, a ripple effect. A RESONANCE.”
Screening Room, Sunday, 2:30–3:30 PM
Organized by Creative Corps artists Luis Marroquin, The Peaceful Warriors was created out of necessity to make safe spaces that allow men of color to be emotionally vulnerable. Through these healing circles and a nurturing support system, the men have been able to reconnect with their spirit, empathy, compassion, and forgiveness. The Warriors’ Path is a short film about the men who are carving a new path of self love.
