Opened to the public in 1993, YBCA was founded as the cultural anchor of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens neighborhood. Our work spans the realms of contemporary art, performance, film, civic engagement, and public life. By centering artists as essential to social and cultural movement, YBCA is reimagining the role an arts institution can play in the community it serves.
Our mission is to generate culture that moves people.
YBCA is OPEN, and we are doing OPEN differently. We invite our community to join us on our journey to radically reinvent what it means to be a center for artists and the public to build a more just and equitable future.
YBCA prioritizes above all the safety, health and wellbeing of our staff, collaborating artists and partners, and community. We strictly follow the COVID-19 guidance of local and state public health agencies, OSHA, and the CDC to ensure that our protocols address and mitigate the risk of illness and injury and promote wellbeing.
