Schools & Partnerships

YBCA is proud to work with our educational partners in our surrounding neighborhoods. We work with these partners to cultivate artistic skills and a lifelong appreciation for the arts in our students. The transformative impact is evident in the heartfelt feedback from families and teachers, who have shared how the programs have inspired joy, confidence, and self-expression in the students – reinforcing the power of the arts to uplift, connect, and inspire.

We provide high-quality arts education to K-5 students through our school partnership with Bessie Carmichael Elementary. In collaboration with dedicated Teaching Artists and classroom teachers, and with our partnership with Precita Eyes Muralists, we enrich the curriculum with drawing, painting, printmaking, movement, storytelling, sculpture, and more. Students receive personal art kits to support continued creativity beyond the classrooms.

“I love that the projects were long term and that they continued to work on it piece by piece each session. I also love that they used materials that I don’t get to use a lot (i.e. clay, glitter/beads, mini boxes) because we just don’t have the time and money to prepare big art projects like that all the time. I really appreciated it.”

About Precita Eyes Muralists

As an inner-city, community-based, mural arts organization, Precita Eyes Muralists work to enrich and beautify urban environments and educate the public about the process and history of community mural art. Working with a wide variety of neighborhoods and communities, they nourish one’s inherent creativity and celebrate the beauty of their community. They maintain a deep commitment to collaboration.  This dedication to the collaborative process ensures that the creative work produced is accessible, both physically and conceptually, to the people whose lives it impacts. They bring art into the daily lives of people through a process which allows them to celebrate their beauty, discover their creativity, and reflect their concerns, joys and triumphs.

We partner with the Filipino Education Center Galing Bata to deliver arts education to students in their summer program at the Children’s Creativity Museum. In collaboration with Galing Bata teachers, YBCA’s Teaching Artists provide culturally relevant art learning experiences centered on students’ interests. The students explore various art materials, Filipino art, culture, and history.

“I enjoyed watching the students make their own portraits and how it was fun for them to continuously engage throughout the workshop. I value the students being able to connect with their identity a lot, so seeing them create their own portraits and making something that connects to their identity is impactful”
