Create some art inspired by the artists of Bay Area Now 9 in this series of eight stand-alone, drop-in art workshops for participants of all ages, led by YBCA Teaching Artist Blanca Estela Rodríguez. Art materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take their artwork home as a souvenir. Each workshop will feature a different artist highlighted in the BAN9 exhibition at YBCA, and explore each artist’s practice and unique art-making method.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, create a hand-drawn portrait of someone you’d like to celebrate—a friend, family, loved one, or yourself. You can even use photography via polaroids as a resource. This exercise is inspired by BAN9 artist Christine Tien Wang, who in the recent solo exhibition Banana Philosophy shared a series of portrait paintings reflecting on her personal experience as an American-born Chinese
