Relaxation Day at YBCA

Celebrate National Relaxation Day and 3rd Thursday with YBCA and Blue Shield of California.

With the shared belief that art​ has​ measurable impacts on individual and community health​, YBCA and Blue Shield of California present Relaxation Day at YBCA​. ​Enjoy a full-day of activities including free dance classes, guided meditation, chair massages and more as we look to raise awareness of the essential role that art plays in our well-being.

Enjoy free gallery admission to Art of Peace as part of the Yerba Buena Neighborhood-wide 3rd Thursdays. From 5-7:30pm, join us for complimentary cocktails during happy hour featuring DJ Sue Problema and our Artist to Artist conversation – a rapid-fire discussion between local artists.

An RSVP is required for your free day pass in allowing us to prepare for your visit. Pop in and make time for yourself and the relaxation that you deserve.

About Sarah Cahill

Recently called “a sterling pianist and an intrepid illuminator of the classical avant-garde” by the New York Times and “a brilliant and charismatic advocate for modern and contemporary composers” by Time Out New York, Sarah Cahill has commissioned, premiered, and recorded numerous compositions for solo piano. Over forty composers have dedicated works to her, including John Adams, Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, Pauline Oliveros, and Julia Wolfe.  She received the 2018 Champion of New Music Award from the American Composers Forum. Recent appearances include the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, and a week-long residency at the Noguchi Museum in New York.  Her writing has appeared in the John Adams Reader, Contemporary Music Review, Keyboard Magazine, the Ashgate Research Companion to Minimalist and Postminimalist Music, and Piano and Keyboard Magazine.  Her pre-concert talks and onstage interviews have been featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She programs concerts at BAMPFA and is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory.  Her radio show, Revolutions Per Minute, can be heard every Sunday evening from 8 to 10 pm on KALW, 91.7 FM in San Francisco.

About Mikey Chang

A boy! A girl! Wait…. it’s Mikey! Mikey Chang teaches FemPower Heels at The Dance Loft SF, where he provides a safe space for all femmes to explore femme movement through dance. Mikey is also a licensed Zumba® Fitness and Zumba® Circuit Instructor, and also teaches various other group fitness classes, such as Beginner Heels Conditioning and Bootcamp. He is so excited to share his joy and passion for movement with YBCA! You can learn more about him on his Instagram @mikeylikesthed. Yes, the D is for dance!

About Lisa Rybovich Crallé

Lisa Rybovich Crallé is an interdisciplinary artist based in the Bay Area. Her research focuses on corporeality and embodied experience in relation to sculpture, installation, and performance — art forms that respond to the physical presence of a viewer or participant. Her work has been presented at Cornell University, the Manetti Shrem Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Berkeley Art Museum, Syracuse University, Mills College, di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Land and Sea, and Field Projects, among other venues. She has been an artist in residence at the Vermont Studio Center, Ox-Bow, Arteles, and the Bubec Sculpture Studio. In addition to her studio practice, Lisa teaches at Berkeley City College and co-organizes Heavy Breathing, a series of experimental artist-led movement seminars. About Natasha Durel

Natasha Durel is a Mindset Coach, NLP Practitioner, Meditation Teacher and Reiki Master. She introduces different modalities into her practice such as productivity strategizing and reframing thoughts. She challenges her students to bring the same presence and impact that meditation creates beyond the classroom by showing up for each aspect of life in the same way. Outside of the classroom, Natasha works closely with clients in a 1:1 setting and dives deep into how they can take their unique dreams and visions to create a difference in this world. She teaches every Thursday and Friday at WITHIN Meditation.

About Landra Eliopoulos

Landra Eliopoulos is passionate about integrating mindfulness & meditation practices into workplace people development. She is the founder of Integrate and Flow, offering a variety of personal growth coaching and mindfulness experiences. In addition, Landra has 15+ years of HR and leadership coaching experience and is the founder of Mindful HR. She began her meditation journey through the practice of yoga, and completed a 200-hour mindfulness & meditation training with Jill Satterfield. She teaches regularly at WITHIN Meditation.

About Angela Vujkovic

Angela teaches Latin, Ballroom and Wedding dances at The Dance Loft. As a certified instructor and passionate dancer Angela can guide you with ease and joy through the wonderful world of salsa, cha cha, rumba, samba, swing, foxtrot, tango and waltz. Angela started her dance journey at the age of 11 and truly enjoys sharing her knowledge; connecting with people through dance and helping them find happiness and transformational power in it! About Third Thursdays

Join us for our monthly free programming as part of the Yerba Buena Neighborhood-wide Third Thursdays. Enjoy free gallery admission all day, from 5-7:30pm local DJs, complimentary specialty cocktails, and our Artist to Artist conversation – a rapid-fire discussion between local artists.

Each month we invite two artists into our galleries to get to know one another better by asking 3 questions of their choosing. This short, 20-minute talk will be recorded and available for future viewing.
