Create art inspired by programs at YBCA in this series of drop-in art workshops for participants of all ages. Each workshop will explore different practices and art-making methods. Materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take their artwork home as a souvenir.
Join artists Sergio De La Torre and Chris Treggiari for a print-making workshop as part of their ongoing Sanctuary City Project.
In 2017, the Sanctuary City Project launched its first Sanctuary City Print Shop at YBCA, inviting visitors into dialogue and participatory artmaking about immigration, sanctuary, and belonging. De La Torre and Treggiari transformed these conversations into striking visual works—silkscreen posters, billboards, neon signs, and apparel. Eight years later, as part of Bay Area Then, Sanctuary City Project revisits the Print Shop through this new workshop. Drawing from years of public engagement and oral histories, the project continues to amplify immigrant voices and highlight the enduring importance of policies that protect and uplift our communities.
