YBCA Teaching Artist ChiChai Mateo will facilitate a series of stand-alone, drop-in art workshops that are open to the public and welcome participants of all ages. Art materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take their artwork home. For this series, each workshop will be inspired by the Parol Lantern Festival – the quintessential Filipinx symbol of hope, blessings, and luck during the holiday season. These workshops are a celebration with YBCA’s community partner, SOMA Pilipinas and the Filipino Heritage District.

Drawing inspiration from parol lantern shapes and patterns, participants can experiment with color and texture by using soft materials such as felt to create a vibrant 3D parol felt charm. This workshop is inspired by the Parol Lantern Festival, hosted by YBCA’s community partner SOMA Pilipinas. The Parol Lantern Festival is the quintessential Filipinx symbol of hope, blessings, and luck during the holiday season.
