Create art inspired by artists in this series of stand-alone, drop-in art workshops for participants of all ages. Materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take their artwork home as a souvenir. Each workshop will feature a different artist from the YBCA exhibitions and explore the artist’s practice and art-making methods.
Nick Dong’s 2019 Mendsmith Project, is a social service project in which he transforms small metal objects that belonged to a lost loved one to help memorialize for the wearer. Children are also encouraged to make and wear matching jewelry with their parents to give them a sense of connection. In this workshop, visitors emulate this process by making beaded bracelets with letters spelling out who they love so participants can stay connected to their loved ones even when they are separated.
