William Winant is a percussionist and educator whose 40+ year career has positioned him as a central figure in contemporary and experimental music. A 2014 Grammy–nominated artist, and winner of a Grant to Artists award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts (FCA); Winant has collaborated, recorded, and toured worldwide with composers and musicians including John Cage, Iannis Xenakis, Barbara Monk Feldman, Wendy Reid, Frank Zappa, Roscoe Mitchell, Anthony Braxton, Hi-Kyung Kim, James Tenney, Terry Riley, Cecil Taylor, George Lewis, Joan LaBarbara, Yo-Yo Ma, Lou Harrison, John Zorn, Bun-Ching Lam, Gordon Mumma, Alvin Lucier, Wadada Leo Smith, Keith Jarrett, Steve Reich and Steve Reich and Musicians, Frederic Rzewski, Ursula Oppens, Annea Lockwood, Joëlle Léandre, Zeena Parkins, Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo, Mr. Bungle, Sonic Youth, and the Kronos Quartet, many of whom have written works specifically for him.
