Thi Bui is the author of the bestselling graphic memoir, The Best We Could Do, which received an American Book Award and is taught in universities around the country. She won a Caldecott Honor as the illustrator of A Different Pond by Bao Phi and with her son, co-illustrated Chicken of the Sea by Viet Thanh Nguyen and his son. She is currently researching and drawing NOWHERELAND, a work of graphic nonfiction about immigrant detention and deportation, to be published by One World, Random House. Bui lives in Oakland and teaches in the MFA in Comics program at the California College of the Arts.
