Ted Barrow, Ph.D., is an art historian, writer, curator, lecturer, and tour guide whose work examines the surfaces and spaces of art, architecture, and the built environment. A scholar of Gilded Age art and architecture, his dissertation examined Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent in Florida. His writing has appeared in Artforum, Variable West, ArtBae, PIN-UP, Walker Art Center, and other publications. Barrow has curated exhibitions and led tours on art, architecture, and urban history in San Francisco and beyond. He is the host of Thrasher Magazine’s popular YouTube series “This Old Ledge,” which explores the architectural and cultural histories of iconic skate spots. His writing and teaching move between art history, architecture, skateboarding, and visual culture, bringing scholarly research into conversation with contemporary urban life. He lives in San Francisco.
