Richard Olayvar, aka RO3LAY, is a second-generation, San Francisco-born-and-raised son of a Filipina immigrant from Bicol, Philippines. He is a recording artist and photographer. Paying homage to the rich cultural fabric of San Francisco is a theme in both his music and photography. He was gifted a 35mm point-and-shoot camera during the pandemic and has since focused primarily on film photography, enjoying the slowed-down process and intentionality that film brings–this shift has been pivotal in shaping his view of the current world. His photos focus on the everyday nuances we tend to overlook–the appreciation of what’s directly in front of us, the beauty in simply noticing. You can find him walking up and down 6th Street in the SOMA district, chasing sunlight, good conversation, and glimpses of the everyday hustle.
