Martin Travers is a UK-born professional artist, muralist, and arts educator with a background in street art and community-led mural painting.
Although raised in London, it was his years living in California that rooted his creative practice in community. He has since honed his artistic voice through extensive travels, collaborating with artists and communities in many parts of the world, echoing local concerns on global issues.
Passionate about arts education, Travers uses the arts as a catalyst to open doors for underserved youth in some of the most vulnerable situations. He has worked as an arts workshop facilitator in juvenile prisons in the Netherlands and South Africa for the organisation Young in Prison. He is also the co-founder of ROOTZ, a Netherlands-based initiative that empowers young people from disadvantaged communities through creativity rooted in Hip Hop culture.
Travers has spent considerable time in Nepal following an artist residency at the Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Centre (KCAC) and his experience of the 2015 earthquake. He was involved in disaster relief efforts, conducting art workshops for traumatised young survivors across the country. This work led to the creation of the Kala Sikchya Art Initiative, a voluntary project aimed at integrating art into the curriculum of underfunded schools in Kathmandu.
In his hometown of Swindon, Travers played a key role in revitalising public space through street art, serving as lead artist for the Swindon Paint Festival in 2022 and 2023 — an initiative that brought colour and creativity to a town marked by years of austerity and economic hardship. He holds an MA in Fine Art from Falmouth University, UK, and developed much of his recent studio work while based in County Kerry, Ireland.
