Isabela Capeto was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1970. After graduating from Accademia di Moda in Florence, Italy in 1991, Isabela Capeto worked as a designer for such brands as Maria Bonita and thereafter engaged in print design for a Rio de Janeiro textile manufacturer. In 2003, she established her own studio in Rio and, in October of the same year, began opening semiannual showrooms in Paris. Capeto’s design work continually transgresses the border between art and fashion. Her 2006 Summer Collection, taking the theme “Matisse,” employed collage in re-interpreting the abstract, geometric world of painter Henri Matisse in the realm of fashion. Colorful in appearance and romantic in aura, her clothing designs always feature beautiful handicraft elements, such as embroidery and attachments of antique lace. Recently, Capeto has produced maquettes with a carnival theme and tapestries covered with beads and spangles.
