Eamon Ore-Giron (b. 1973, Tucson, USA) blends a wide-range of visual styles and influences in the abstract geometric paintings for which he is best known. The artist’s early figurative work also pulls from varied cultural sources, notably the Southwestern United States and Peru. These paintings are often populated by family members who are transformed into surreal representations engaged in quotidian activities, and both the figures as well as the landscapes that surround them are defined by the paintings’ flat style and saturated, brightly colored palette. These early works set the stage for the Ore-Giron’s ongoing preoccupations within his current painting practice.
Ore-Giron has exhibited nationally and internationally. He was featured in the Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing, and a 20-year survey of his painting practice was presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver in 2022 before traveling to The Contemporary Austin in 2023. His work, as a solo practitioner and as part of collaborative endeavors, has also been shown at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia (2023); Anderson Collection at Stanford University (2021); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2019); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2018); LAXART, Los Angeles (2015); OFF Biennale Cairo (2015); Pérez Art Museum Miami (2013); Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2008); El Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Arte (MUCA), Roma, Mexico City (2006); and in Prospect.3, New Orleans (2014). Ore-Giron was commissioned to design the set for Mystic Familiar, a new ballet by choreographer Justin Peck for the New York City Ballet that debuted in January 2025. He has also been selected to realize major public commissions in New York and Los Angeles and was the 2020–2022 Presidential Visiting Artist at Stanford University. Ore-Giron received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
