Cléa Massiani is a Ph.D. Candidate in Contemporary Art History at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a former curator at Creativity Explored in San Francisco. Massiani’s research bridges contemporary visual art, curatorial practice, and disability studies, with a focus on institutional histories, modes of display, and artists working in Progressive Art Studios. Originally from Aix-en-Provence, France, Massiani earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in history and art history from the Sorbonne (Paris IV) and an M.A. in exhibition and museum studies from the San Francisco Art Institute. Massiani has curated and co-curated over 100 exhibitions, including at Creativity Explored, the Lab, the Museum of Craft and Design, University of Buffalo Galleries, The Driskell Center, The University of Maryland Art Gallery, and Bass & Reiner Gallery, which she co-founded in 2014.
