For over 40 years, Berkeley Ballet Theater (BBT) has provided classical ballet training to dancers of all ages and backgrounds, working to enrich our community by providing a safe space to ignite curiosity and nurture a love for dance in a body-positive, gender-inclusive environment.
BBT serves more than 300 families of dancers aged 2.5 – 21 years old, as well as over 600 adult dancers, offering 400+ hours of ballet and contemporary dance classes each week. BBT’s Youth Division provides serious dance students with rigorous training in ballet, modern, and contemporary dance while also empowering the dancers to cultivate creativity, self-expression, and a sense of connection between themselves and their fellow dancers.
BBT’s Youth Division also provides a space for young adults to connect with a multi-generational community of artists and arts lovers, develop leadership skills, be a part of a close-knit peer group, and experience extraordinary performing opportunities.
BBT’s studios are home to our official company, Post:ballet, as well as AXIS Contemporary Dance Company and the Dance for PD® program, which originated as a collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group, and provides free weekly movement classes for people affected by Parkinson’s disease.
