Over the last two decades, Andrew Bixler (b. 1981) has crafted a whimsical universe of recurring characters, creating an archive of options for a superlative life. Whether they are drawn on paper or sculpted in clay, Bixler’s characters transcend a single moment of portraiture and become entangled with one another in a sea of misadventures.

Bixler’s practice spans drawing, sculpture, and animation, with a continuation of subjects across media. He devotes equal concern to the thoughts, insecurities, and feelings of his subjects as he does to their defining lines and composition, prompting viewers to connect with the characters and to dive deeper into his body of work.

In his twenty-year tenure at Creativity Explored, Bixler has participated in nearly thirty group exhibitions, including at Outerspace Gallery in New Hampshire and the Oakland Museum of California. In 2023, he was featured in the OMCA exhibition Into the Brightness: Artists from Creativity Explored, Creative Growth & NIAD.
