Andrea Bowers is a Los Angeles–based artist who advocates for the merging of political activism with artistic practice. Bowers received her MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 1992. Her recent work investigates the continued exploitation of the poor and working class. Over the last 23 years, she has built an international reputation for her drawings, videos, and installations, which deal with social issues ranging from women’s and workers’ rights to climate change and immigration. She has been teaching in the Otis College of Art and Design MFA Public Practice program since 2007.
