Conversation between Bay Area Now 8 artists Nicki Green and Jamil Hellu at YBCA Free Third Thursdays. Nicki Green’s ceramics practice allows her to re-enter Jewish identity through a queer and trans lens, creating ritual objects of Hebrew and Jewish practice that are not centered around binary gender and heterosexual sex. Jamil Hellu captures personal histories from across Bay Area LGBTQ communities, in carefully staged portraits that tell the stories of their subjects’ experiences of sexual identity.
