Liang Shuo was born in 1976 in Jixian, Tianjin Province, China, and currently lives and works in Chengdu and Beijing. Liang finds cheap, everyday objects in the markets and combines them—according to their original forms, without any adhesive material—to create new, meaningful forms. He does not judge a work’s completion based on any predetermined outcome; rather, he searches for rational relationships that can be produced when objects meet one another. Liang proposes an aesthetic standard based on the value judgment “as long as it fits.” His fundamental attitude toward things is clearly manifested in his resistance to the empirical world and basic logic.
Liang has had solo exhibitions at C5 Art, Beijing (2010 and 2008), and has participated in group exhibitions at Space Station, Beijing (2014), Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2013), Power Station of Art, Shanghai (2013 and 2012), the Groninger Museum, the Netherlands (2013), Kunsthal KadE, Amersfoort, the Netherlands (2013), the Today Art Museum, Beijing (2013, 2011, and 2003), the Shanghai Biennale (2012), C5 Art, Beijing (2012), Museo Pietro Canonica, Rome (2012), the Guangdong Times Museum, Guangzhou, China (2012), the National Museum of China, Beijing (2012 and 2011), Espai d’art Contemporani de Castelló, Spain (2011), Tang Contemporary Art Center, Beijing (2011), the Times Art Museum, Beijing (2010), Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2009), Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnica Leonardo Da Vinci, Milan (2009), the CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (2008), the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea (2007), the Museum Het Domein, Sittard, the Netherlands (2007 and 2006), Rijksakademie, Amsterdam (2006 and 2005), Museum Beelden aan zee, Hague, the Netherlands (2005), Long March Space, Beijing (2004), the China Art Museum, Beijing (2003), and the Millennium Art Museum, Beijing (2003), among others.
