Remembering Phil Solomon

Presented by San Francisco Cinematheque   |

August 8, 2019

Phil Solomon (1954–2019) was among the great avant-garde filmmakers of this era. Perhaps the last creative innovator of special effects on celluloid, Solomon magically transforms pre-existing images and sounds into dense landscapes that are sensually revelatory and profoundly evocative. In Solomon’s world, home movie footage and fleeting moments from classic Twilight Zone episodes become surfaces that contain hidden truths about the ephemerality of life, mysteries of memory and the inevitability of loss. This tribute includes several of Solomon’s greatest films: Remains to Be SeenThe Exquisite HourTwilight Psalm I and II and others. This program will be presented by Steve Anker, Director Emeritus of San Francisco Cinematheque.
