GRAMMY®-nominated singer Perla Batalla performs her show, A Letter to Leonard Cohen: Tribute to a Friend, celebrating her long-time friend and mentor Leonard Cohen. Featuring Batalla’s powerful voice, powerful band, emotional honesty, and boundary-defying songs, blending interpretations of Cohen’s iconic lyrics with two of her own compositions, “Awakened” and “The L of Your First Name”. The project serves as a deeply personal and fearless tribute to Cohen’s legacy, informed by Batalla’s two decades of touring and recording with him.
Batalla was Cohen’s collaborator and friend for more than two decades. Cohen, of course, was a revered, Montreal-born, Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as well as invested as Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest civilian honor. An icon in his native land and around the globe, he is considered the poet laureate of Canada.
