In this British oddity, a maniacal tabby cat named Tabitha stalks the killers after her wealthy mistress is murdered. This may sound ridiculous, but The Shadow of the Cat is a bizarre blast. It’s moody, drenched with “old dark house” atmosphere, and the revenge scenes are filmed from Tabitha’s perspective in “Cat-O-Vision.” (1961, 79 min, 35mm)
“There are few films that are not improved by the presence of a cat.” —Anne Billson, The Telegraph
Sadly, the Internet Cat Video Festival has been retired, but in its place YBCA presents a curated series of films centered around our furry, friendly, frisky, and occasionally fearsome feline friends. Drawing on a wide range of genres, from horror to Japanese animation, we’ll consider the soothing and sometimes otherworldly nature of cats, who maintain their mystery even as they begrudgingly let us love them.
