Description
Dir. Justin Zimmerman
We begin the series with this very special documentary about the care and welfare of all kinds of animals, not only cats.

Just like humans, animals sometimes need to be rescued. In Los Angeles, the members of SMART are stepping up to save their lives. Led by Armando Navarrete, this division of trained and passionate animal lovers risks life and limb to rescue every kind of creature in need, from horses to mountain lions. Navarrete and his team have saved more than one thousand animals and have created new tactics, technologies, and inspiration for similar programs to develop in other cities. (2016, 74 min, digital). Preceded by a surprise short.

About the Series

“There are few films that are not improved by the presence of a cat.” —Anne Billson, The Telegraph

Sadly, the Internet Cat Video Festival has been retired, but in its place YBCA presents a curated series of films centered around our furry, friendly, frisky, and occasionally fearsome feline friends. Drawing on a wide range of genres, from horror to Japanese animation, we’ll consider the soothing and sometimes otherworldly nature of cats, who maintain their mystery even as they begrudgingly let us love them.
