Overview
Few other contemporary artists so fully embody YBCA’s Big Idea of Encounter more than Karen Finley. Her performance work — celebrated for exploding taboos around sex, gender, and celebrity while suffering (earning?) right-wing censure — invites the viewer to plumb the depths of satire and socio-political tragicomedy. Her oeuvre transcends the insular, echo-y art world with explosive and cathartic forays into club culture, pop music, and publishing — most recently with the release of her newest book, The Reality Shows.
Join Karen as she performs excerpts from The Reality Shows and has a conversation with YBCA’s Executive Director, Ken Foster. Program followed by a Q & A.
