The sixth edition of YBCA's signature triennial exhibition, Bay Area Now, a roundup of exemplary talent across an array of disciplines, continues with a visual arts exhibition showcasing 18 artists and artist collectives. Included is photography by Tammy Rae Carland and Sean McFarland; paintings by David Huffman and Robert Minervini; video works by Ranu Mukherjee and Richard T. Walker; sculptures by Mauricio Ancalmo, Suzanne Husky, Allison Smith, and Weston Teruya; conceptual work by Amy Balkin and Tony Labat; installations by Chris Fraser, Brion Nuda Rosch, Chris Sollars, and Rio Babe International; and textiles by Ben Venom.
Shot mostly on the mean streets of San Francisco, this is a gritty, brooding tale of a bisexual hustler who’ll go to bed with any man or woman who offers him enough money and sexual kicks. Using both sexploitation and art film aesthetics, The Meatrack is an essential and compelling artifact of pre-hardcore adult cinema. (1968, 65 min, 35mm)

Lamplighters Music Theatre: H.M.S. Pinafore

Lamplighters Music Theatre open their 59th Season in Portsmouth Harbor with Gilbert & Sullivan's first blockbuster hit, H.M.S. Pinafore. Audiences will board one of England's great Navy ships where the beautiful Josephine must choose between marrying Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty — with all of the wealth, prestige and power his title affords — or the "simple sailor, lowly born" who has won her heart. Gilbert devised the plot to make fun of patriotism, social class snobbery and incompetence in high places, and over 130 years later we can still laugh! Many years later H.M.S. Pinafore is still one of the most popular operettas ever produced.
