Director Robert Flaxman in person at both screenings! A Labor of Love is just as much a chronicle of low-budget filmmaking as it is a study of the personal conflicts which come into play during the creation of a piece of "pornography," and the social mores which are violated.

Doug Varone continues a long exploration of the nature of art and inspiration with Chapters from a Broken Novel, an adventurous mash–up of segments, each based on a quote, an image, or an over-heard snippet of conversation. Created for eight dancers, and featuring music by composer David Van Tieghem, Chapters feels like a furtive, unplanned peek into an artist's daily journal, one that depicts human nature at its most vulnerable, expressive and poignant. Chapters from a Broken Novel is co–commissioned by San Francisco Performances.

He catapulted to widespread recognition with his 2007 triumph at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, and as a bandleader, he’s developed a distinctive group sound marked by graceful melodies, charged lyricism and supple, inventive harmonies.
